In Exodus 1, Pharaoh orders the Hebrew midwives to destroy the Hebrew baby boys. Two midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, refuse.
Their decision becomes the first act of resistance in the Exodus story—and the beginning of Israel’s deliverance.
