What would your type’s story sound like?

Insights from the work: what clients are navigating, what I’m learning, and ways to keep growing.

Reader,

We talk a lot about Enneagram types, but we don’t often get to hear the stories behind them. What shaped someone, what they wrestled with, and how knowing their type helped them grow.

That’s what the Story Spotlights at the Spiritual Formation EnneaSummit offer. Each runs about 25 minutes, and each features a real person sharing a real chapter of their life.

Stories like these matter to me because of how my own Enneagram journey began. I started with The Road Back to You, and I was sure I was a Two. When I went through the checklists, I actually ticked off more Two statements than Three. For eight months, I thought of myself as a Two.

Then I heard a podcast where someone talked about parenting as a Three and something clicked, and I realized that was me. I was so clearly a Three. How had I not seen it?

That’s the gift of hearing someone’s story.

If you’re unsure of your type, a story might land in a way a checklist can’t. And if you do know your type, it’s meaningful to hear what others who share it have walked through and how knowing it has shaped them.

Here are the Story Spotlights:

Type 1: Micky ScottBey Jones, The Anger I Didn’t Know I Carried
Type 2: Melinda Mihalyov, The Helper Needs Help: What Cancer Is Teaching Me About Receiving Care
Type 3: Linda Hannigan, I Don’t Have to Be Impressive: Why I Stopped Serving at Church for a Season
Type 4: Janine Westlund, Bringing My Shame Into the Light
Type 5: Sharon Stewart, When Isolation Feels Easier: Why I Chose to Go Back to Church
Type 6: Lynn Buckles, Courage Without Certainty: Facing a 10% Chance of Survival
Type 7: Toni LaMotta, What My Restlessness Was Trying to Tell Me
Type 8: Louise Goodwin, My Strength Is Not a Liability
Type 9: Nate Chatfield, Taking the Lead: From Supporting Others to Pursuing My Own Calling

They’re free to watch, but only until tomorrow. You can register here:

I hope to see you there!

P.S. This is the one summit where I buy the All Access Pass right away, because I always go back to sessions and listen to them again and again. If you know you won’t get to all the sessions and want to come back to them, the early-bird price is $59 until the summit begins; then it goes up to $79. The All Access Pass gives you immediate, lifetime access to all 45 sessions, plus audio downloads, transcripts, and other resources.

I’m a summit affiliate, so if you purchase an All Access Pass through my links, I may earn a commission.

September 2026 Insights Insights from the work: what clients are navigating, what I’m learning, and ways to keep growing. Reader, If I’m honest, I don’t enjoy promoting myself, and as a Type 3 who spent my career before kids in marketing, public relations, and advertising, you’d think it would come easily. Admittedly, I thought it would be easier than it is (cue the self-preservation Type 3, the countertype that can look more like a Type 2). I was just on a walk with a dear friend who is a...

October Reader, "Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives who were in prison with me; they are prominent among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.” Romans 16:7, NRSV Did you catch that Paul uses our phrases in that verse to describe her? My relatives In prison with me Prominent among the apostles In Christ before I was Think about that for a second. Paul is telling us his relative Junia followed Christ before he did, in years when believers were being persecuted. And she was...

September 2026 Insights Insights from the work: what clients are navigating, what I’m learning, and ways to keep growing. Reader, I couldn't sleep the night after I recorded my Story Spotlight for the Type·ish Spiritual Formation Summit. My brain went into overdrive with all the classic Enneagram 3 lines: I shared too much. I shared too little and didn't sound authentic. What was I thinking saying yes to this? What will Tyler think of me? Did I meet his expectations? Ugh... I could go on and...
