Reader. Two massive topics to tackle in one series—Eve and wisdom. What was I thinking? I’m already realizing eight sessions are NOT going to cut it. When we studied Genesis last year, I planned for 12 sessions and ended up with 15. Now, before we’ve even started Women of Wisdom, I can already tell—eight sessions won’t be enough. After digging into the material these past few weeks, we clearly need more time to give these two topics the attention they deserve. So, it will now be 10 sessions, meeting once a month through November.
Here’s the updated schedule:
📅 Feb 19, Mar 10, Apr 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, Aug 11, Sept 8, Oct 13, Nov 10
And for those of you incorporating Illuminate coaching, that’s two more sessions added to your package.
Why is Eve such a massive topic?
Here’s what I am learning more and more. While the Bible is printed in black on white paper; it’s not black and white.
Here's an example. Let me ask you a question (if you were in Genesis, you might remember this):
What fruit did Adam and Eve eat?
Most of us think apple. Why? Because it's everywhere. It’s in our art, our stories—like one of my favorite pieces, Mary Consoles Eve by Sister Grace Remington.
But the text doesn’t say apple. Though fig leaves are mentioned just a few verses later… (Now I’m picturing that Studio C skit where "the worst teacher ever" completely forgets how to pronounce apple. AY-pple? AH-pple? AHHH-pple?! 🤣 [watch here]).
If English isn’t confusing enough, try thousands of years of translations, cultural shifts, and interpretations. This article on how apple became the forbidden fruit gives just a taste (no pun intended) of what we’re dealing with when it comes to Eve.
And this is exactly the kind of research I dig into. Last year’s Genesis study took 250+ hours—piecing through sources, studying historical and cultural context, and breaking it down into something I can lay out for you on a platter. Not to tell you what to think but to give you space to wrestle with it yourself.
This is exactly why we need to go back to the original language, author, audience, and intent—Eve’s original design.
That’s where we’ll start next week. Hope you can join me!
What do you need?
I don’t hand out notes. Why? Because everyone processes differently and takes notes in their own way! Bring a journal or some old-fashioned loose-leaf paper to create your own Learning Lab Journal. We’ll reference it often throughout the series.
Will there be homework?
Nope! I don’t assign homework—who’s got time for that?! You just show up ready to learn, wrestle with Scripture, and capture what the Holy Spirit speaks to you in your journal.
I don’t live near you—how can I join?
I've got you covered with a hybrid model as some women join via Zoom because it works better for them. Doors open at 6:30 PM (most people show up around 6:45), Zoom Room will open at 6:55 and we start promptly at 7:00 PM. And if you can’t make it live, you can catch the recordings, which I’ll send out later in the week. They’re unedited, so you’ll get the raw, good stuff. 😊
