Women of Exodus

Hi [First Name],

I do wish I hadn't turned off "record" last night — but I've noticed that some of you don't say much when the recording is on. So honestly, I don't know if we would have had the rich conversation we did afterward even if I'd kept recording.

But the way Amy summed up Zipporah — brave, courageous, decisive — and then pointed out how the world wants to diminish obedience. Gasp.

Which led me to thinking about a coaching question I was given early in my coaching days, one I still go back to a lot: "Do I like my reasons why I'm ___ (doing, or not doing, something)?"If Zipporah had been asked, "Do you like your reason why you acted so swiftly?" I can't help but wonder if she would have swiftly said, "Yes. Yes, I do."

And the reason I point that out is because of what I forgot to mention last night: all seven women, whatever they did to protect Moses, did it with no care for their own safety.

And that reminds me of Mary of Magdala, believe it or not. With no care or concern for her own safety — while the other disciples were hiding behind locked doors — she went to attend to Jesus' tomb. When you think about the amount of tension in the air, the armed guards around Jesus' tomb? What compelled her to brave that?

Which then reminded me of what Heather said in our Miriam session, when I asked the women what would have compelled them to stay at the riverbank to watch Moses: love, she said. Love for her brother is what would have kept her there.

And yet, I think love for others makes us courageous and brave. I

It's Jesus' love for you that compelled Him to suffer the cross.

So that's a whole bunch of thoughts there...shows you how my brain works.
