This weekend: Junia, Phoebe, and Priscilla

October

Reader,

"Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives who were in prison with me; they are prominent among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.” Romans 16:7, NRSV

Did you catch that Paul uses our phrases in that verse to describe her?

  • My relatives
  • In prison with me
  • Prominent among the apostles
  • In Christ before I was

Think about that for a second. Paul is telling us his relative Junia followed Christ before he did, in years when believers were being persecuted. And she was imprisoned, a harsh reality in that world. One verse, and a much deeper picture than a first read suggests.

This weekend we’ll unpack the words behind each one.

She isn’t the only remarkable woman we’ll spend time with.

Friday night: Phoebe. Sister, deacon, patron. Three words Paul uses for her, and what each one meant in her time. Her session alone completely changed my perspective on Paul and women.

Saturday morning: Priscilla. We find her and her husband in Rome, Corinth, and Ephesus, in several places in Scripture. She worked alongside Paul, and her journey is remarkable.

This isn’t information for information’s sake. As we study these women, we’ll explore your own life. What are the words that describe your roles? Where has your journey taken you? We’ll take time to sit with the Holy Spirit and listen to what He says about you, your transitions, and the places life may have buried you.

The last spot in Tacoma ($129, Saturday meals and materials included) is open to register for by the end of today.

Still not sure and would like to try a session for free first? The Friday night Zoom session is live and complimentary. We start at 6:30 pm PST.

Reply to this email, and I’ll send you the link, or register below for the full weekend on Zoom ($29, live with recordings). Zoom registration is open until Friday.

September 2026 Insights Insights from the work: what clients are navigating, what I’m learning, and ways to keep growing. Reader, I couldn't sleep the night after I recorded my Story Spotlight for the Type·ish Spiritual Formation Summit. My brain went into overdrive with all the classic Enneagram 3 lines: I shared too much. I shared too little and didn't sound authentic. What was I thinking saying yes to this? What will Tyler think of me? Did I meet his expectations? Ugh... I could go on and...

October Reader, If there is ONE thing I've learned from living in the United States for 24 years this month, it's that "college" means one thing to Americans and an entirely different thing to Canadians. I learned pretty quickly that I can't say "I weight lifted in college." Which, while true, makes Americans picture me on a full-ride sports scholarship at a university like the University of Washington, which they call college. I had to change that language fast. A Canadian, though, would...

September 2026 Reader A couple of years ago, I watched a documentary about mosaics in Zeugma being uncovered- two-thousand-year-old pieces of art, buried for centuries, now being brought back into the light. One shot stayed with me: the camera zoomed in on a woman's face in the tiles, a mythological figure, stunning in her own right. Then the camera pulled back as they began brushing away more of the earth and silt. She was one piece of an enormous mosaic. The larger mythological tale...
